CURRICULUM INTENT FOR HISTORY

The vision for history education at Heckington St. Andrew’s Primary School:

To   develop children’s experiences and understanding of history, inspiring and   igniting their curiosity about the wider world.

We   use the National Curriculum guidelines in order to develop our history curriculum   but our aim is to make history relevant   and purposeful for our children.

Where possible we will create experiences, including those linked to   the local community, to enhance children’s knowledge about significant events   in British History.

Increase children’s knowledge of other cultures and, in so doing, teach   a respect and understanding of what it means to be a positive multi-cultural   country.

At Heckington St Andrew’s we aim to inspire, engage and motivate our children to ignite a passion for learning so that they can succeed and reach their full potential.

We aim to meet the needs of all learners in our curriculum, challenging them and   enabling them to learn about a range of periods in history.

We   encourage our children to share what they have learnt in history with each   other, their families and the wider community and to learn from others.

Differentiation   is achieved by emphasising deep knowledge and through individual support
